Santo loses his head in the third fall and starts throwing punches, Vera grabs an arm and pulls Santo into la reinera to win. Commission would later overturn this finish, but there’s no indication that’s going to happen here. Commission claimed Santo was too tired from defending it three times a month and had already beaten Rolando twice so match shouldn’t have happened. (A Box y Lucha column makes same point.) The Commission tried to give the belt back to Santo, but Santo rejected it. A rematch was held two months later in Arena Mexico that Vera won.
Event Notes: said to be a full house, and a full house is said to be 6,000 at this point. 3,000 people were left outside the building and police had to be called. Rolando Vera credited with being very over.
